The Government has embarked on a large-scale programme to provide more high-quality housing in Auckland. This includes state houses, KiwiBuild homes and homes that will be sold to the general market. The land being built on is currently owned by Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities. Many old state houses that are due for renewal are being removed from the land to be replaced by new, warm, dry homes.
These development projects are happening in several suburbs simultaneously and are known collectively as the Auckland Housing Programme. The projects are being run by Kāinga Ora's urban development team. Piritahi is doing the civil works, i.e. getting the land ready for builders as well as building or upgrading parks, streets, footpaths and other amenities.
