Improving the wastewater system in Ōwairaka

A new 195m wastewater pipe was successfully installed at Ōwairaka recently to improve the handling capacity and performance of the wastewater system.

A new 195m wastewater pipe was successfully installed at Ōwairaka recently. The size of the new pipe called for a two-stage approach and a less intrusive technique known as 'slipline' which reduces the impact on neighbours.

The benefits of this challenging piece of work include improving the handling capacity and performance of the wastewater system. The project's success came down to planning and communication between teams and our neighbours. Active engagement with impacted residents was crucial in addressing concerns and allowing for unexpected schedule changes.

In collaboration with mana whenua and the Kāinga Ora development team, we were able to repurpose extracted rock for art pieces and community green spaces.
